Why is Dhoni so good in IPL but not in Internationals?

Dhoni plays the with the same intent that we wish him do it while playing for national team.

Does he lack the passion while playing for India?

Or is it that he plays cautiously to save his average?

Looks like he is like DK these days.. does better when there are 5-6 overs left..

maybe they should consider playing him at no.6 in the WC and have Rahul and Shankar at 4 and 5.

• more international bowlers in international teams then IPL
• pitches wary all around the world then just scoring on indian pitches
• fear of failure for Indian team is always more then any IPL team, he takes a lot more pressure in international cricket 
• No doubt Kohli does back him to any extent but m not sure if his role is defined . If it is may be not having a proper no.4 or 6 can be reasons since he mostly bats in between them 
• In t20 u have to urgency, his s/r in international t20s have improved . Also bowlers who are bowling well will keep bowling overs in international ODI cricket ...in ipl soon they ll be taken off
• Also he has been gr8 in ipl in last 2 yrs only, before that he was good to avg . So lets see may be he does better this time and if he doesnt their wud be some pattern that we will come to knw

Ability and Intent. He always had the ability, still has..it’s the intent that goes missing.He took a single off the wide off 19.4 and goes on to smack 2 sixes of 19.5 and 19.6, today. He almost won a match in the last over hammering Yadav a few days ago. 

This intent to win matches has finished in Internationals. I would take a half of this Dhoni in the WC. He has been striking at over 180 these past few games.

As a captain he shows more intent. Dhoni did okay in Australia. He is still the best bet seeing the hackish way Pant gets out. In a 50 over game others have to share the burden of scoringly at reasonable rate until 48 th over

People here have again fallen to the trap which he laid last year too,last year too people thought he will carry his ipl form into intl cricket,but it never happened,

This year too many are ready to fall to his trap(mirage)again

He took on steyn for six in one of the match  today he took on boult cannot really say that he is only good against indian trundlers

He is willing to take more risks in IPL, thus ends up hitting more sixes and fours. Does not care whether he gets out in the process.

 

In T20 internationals, its his average first, everything else comes last. One of the worst international T20 players to have survived for so long without doing anything of note in T20Is in the last 12 years.

So I didn't watch the game but checked scorecard, this was no different from what Dhoni does intl matches. He just targeted the last over, which he does even in the intl matches.He hit Boult out of park, that's a legit bowler.

Going into 19th over, he was 13 of 12 balls, which is the fundamental issue with his T20 game over a long time. A legit T20 player can't be calculative. But it has been great to watch he has connected very well in last overs in this IPL, hope he can support Pandya in slog over during WC 

 

He should not be picked in next T20 series for sure, but these threads after each good performance from Dhoni are monotonous, kabhi hajam kar liya karo achi batting

I don't think DHoni will be part of T20 Indian side anymore. Pant will take over. But this ability will be handy in one dayers where the target is somewhat tricky but gettable, he can wait for the right bowler and attack.

Yep that's his greatest utility to this ODI side. But he should also move on after WC and enjoy his play in IPL. WC result will decide fate of many careers.
