Popular Post New guy Posted June 27, 2019 Popular Post Posted June 27, 2019 (edited) India is the only unbeaten team in the tournament so far. Yes we are not a perfect team and have some weakness. But it is clear the management has a plan and has worked on the plan for a few years now. We can talk about how the players we have selected are more utility and average than those with flair but it looks like that was the plan all along. The plans look like it was to build a safe batting team around a great bowling unit and the plan seems to be working so far. Team India is not trying for the 350 scores England is because they feel it's better to be steady and score average par scores every match than go all guns blasting and avoid the high and lows. And they know they can rely on the best all round attack in the world cup to defend every score I think this is one of the times the results speak for themselves and we have consistently dominated teams. Even in the Afghan match we wanted to be steady over being aggressive As for the elephant in the room, it is clear that even though Dhoni is struggling a bit, he is also playing as part of the management's plan where he is asked to bat as deep as possible and avoid collapses. Something which he is able to achieve admirably. Sometimes I think we whine too much. Where other teams are celebrating shock wins or one or two great moments after struggling badly, we are so busy complaining that we are not enjoying our team being professional and ruthless and crushing every opponent. This team might not show the street smartness Dhoni's 2011 team had or the flair of the 2003 team or the passion of the 1983 team but it is clearly the most professional team in this world cup, one which is executing every plan to precision, where every player knows his role and doesn't try to be a hero or show off, where we take advantage of even weak players and let the good ones blossom. And winning every single match in the process Edited June 27, 2019 by New guy manu4411, SrinjayDutta, philcric and 17 others 4 2 14
SK_IH Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 Get Pant into the team. Both Shankar and Jadhav cannot play together flamy, Mosher, ravishingravi and 2 others 5
sage Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 We have such an embarrassing middle order I'll switch off the TV if Kohli/Rohit are out maniac, bahubali, Suhaan and 1 other 4
philcric Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 Sometimes? Iconoclast, Unstable Joe, Stan AF and 1 other 3 1
maniac Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 The problem is we are always on cruise control. On a mental strength level we are on a different level to any team in this tournament. However we can't go out of the box, the moment a team does something out of the box or a freak performance. We should be beating teams like Afghanistan and WI into submission not play just about enough cricket.
Pollack Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 Dhoni is going nowhere. I've made peace with it. India can try to strengthen it's middle order a bit by getting in Pant /DK (preferably Pant) for Shankar. sandeep, philcric and Norman 1 2
bahubali Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 People only whine about middle order and if anyone thinks that winning Against mediocre afg and wi hav cover up those glairing issues than good luck to them. Mosher, express bowling and maniac 3

jusarrived Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 I disagree with lot of selections and I think we did mess up in last couple of years with no clear vision , but now that we are here it’s time to stop complaining and support the team . Imho for a team with quite a few weaknesses, they have very well so far . New guy, philcric, Switchblade and 1 other 4
The Realist Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 Issue is the selectors/management have had years to prepare a team for the WC and cover all bases. Yet the squad picked especially the middle order is embarrassing. Even 6 months ago if you had said the middle order batting will consist of Shankar (who?), Jadhav (journeyman) and Dhoni (past it) would have been laughed out of the room. They are all the same functional boring players who only can play in the same monotone way. Unable to assess the match situation and adjust accordingly because they are simply not good enough. Even within the unbalanced squad selected Pant and DK are superior batters than Shankar and Jadhav yet only ever play the role of smiling tourists. Switchblade, Mosher, maniac and 1 other 1 3

bahubali Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 People who are singing and dancing should aware our bowling is covering up Batting incapability.....dhoni, Shankar and jadhav are very weak middle order and that's the fact so enjoy these victories till it last when it ll come back to bite there won't be anything left behind. beetle, Stan AF and Mosher 3
zen Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 (edited) Concerns are valid. Good teams are expected to do well in all 3 departments. For Eng, the concerns are bowling, Aus needs guys like Maxwell to get into form, Ind’s batting (esp. with Dhawan out) is just short of expectations In Aus vs Eng game, Aus won but that does not hide away areas it needs to improve upon. Neither getting a lower total than what they should mean that Aus should have lost (don’t know why it should be implied as such). Nor would Aus try to sweep things under the carper, which is why countries like Aus are stronger sports nations. Ind does well mainly in cricket (and there too becomes complacent with a win as if it has ticked all the boxes) In any profession, you are expected to improve. Say a hospital does well in treating general patients but has a poor record in certain types of surgeries, it would want to improve on that part. Similarly, Sports team achieve greatness by becoming great in all departments It is not about winning or losing but playing to your potential and watchable cricket. The higher a fan is on Maslow’s pyramid, the more he/she would be inclined to see overall good cricket and teams playing to their potential. If you are at the base of the pyramid (or at other lower level), you are likely to be more concerned about wins only (and probably don’t even mind getting it by hook or crook) or get easily satisfied with it .... it is just that on such forums, we would have fans at different levels of the pyramid Edited June 27, 2019 by zen bahubali, philcric, ViruDilSeKhelo and 4 others 1 6

maniac Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 @newguy is your expectation from the Indian team which has the resources, the talent pool and the experience in a sport that is played at the competitive level by just a handful of countries to be just about adequate? We should be not be accused of killing international cricket, in fact we should have already killed international cricket given our resources with the handful of mercenaries and special talents from rest of the world playing IPL. bahubali 1
