Can’t judge a player playing his first game and that too out of his IPL position (do not know if he bats regularly in lower middle order)

Ideally, he should open where he is used to leveraging on the power play field and a relatively harder ball

Should have opened. What's the point in Rohit and Rahul opening. Only one of them should play the remaining matches and bat in the lower order. Iyer should open with  Ishan/ Ruturaj. Deserves a proper run. as an opener.

Personal glory (runs for openers) as KL Rahul said should not be the focus.

Despite that dismissal, he has done a more than decent job given how late he was sent in to bat. In this same innings, the well set SKY and Rohit got out to inventive shots as well. Can't fault a rookie trying to desperately win the game in the last over for failing at something.similar. 200 strike rate, gave us a leg up in that tight last over.

Rohit should come just before tailenders no point of him playing and wasting PPs atleast let the guys with potential to win WC open innings

Rohit in any case wont score more than 5 runs against decent attacks from now on

a brain fart the next.

ridiculous.  He demonstrated a clear head and correct shot selection on both deliveries.  The ball was a slower one and he failed to execute it with bit more power - marginal execution error, not one of shot selection.

How was that in anyway, a "brain fart"?

Folks who don't understand cricket, judge by outcome, instead of dispassionately evaluating what the player actually did.

Besides, 2 balls in the last over chasing, is no way to draw any sort of conclusions.  Its a no-win situation for the player, and given that, he did really well.  Speaks volumes about his temperament and confidence - at least at the moment.  But even that positive conclusion, is based on a silly small sample-set.

If you really want to have an impression, there's zero evidence to support anything but positive ones from what he did at the crease.

But then again, the acumen levels are quite well-known, so carry on.

You can blame him for lack of awareness. He should have checked whether there was any fielder before playing that shot.  Against a seamer that is tad risky no matter how slow he is.
