Unwatchable Team India

After that Pak game in the T20WC, I'm seeing India play for the first time now.

 

Just can't sit through this game. We don't have those characters who'd keep us glued.

 

Well, we have Kohli. I never liked him, but earlier he was at least fun to watch as a full of himself Delhiwala git who could bat.

This Kohli just mouths holier than thou cliches in pressers.

 

Then there is KL, just the sight of whom is disquieting.

 

Bhuvi and Chahal have attitudes that would put sarkari babudom to shame. They don't look like they want to be there.

 

Dhawan: 5 years past his expiry date?

 

This team has no spunk.

 

We really miss the Sehwag/UV/Dhoni type characters.

That isn't the point.

 

The players are supposed to care. That isn't the impression I got by watching an hour of our bowling.

 

The team selection/ game play is definitely not drawing any spectators.

Our brand of cricket is becoming boring by the day.

 

Batsmen don't want to play strokes but just hang in there.

 

Pacers don't want to bowl with effort and pace like they used to even a year back. ( They were so exciting to watch in the 2015 to 2020 period ). 

 

Spinners are not as exciting as Kul-Cha at their peak .... barring Ashwin on his good days.

The same old " oldies " are getting picked.

 

Why not try Prasidh and Ruturaj in place of Bhuvi and Dhawan.

 

And the oldies are playing very boringly too.

Yep... As it is the ODI format in the middle overs are boring and with the personnel we have it is boring. Also with zero crowds, there is almost zero excitement

Why you think that is the case? What has changed for fast bowlers?

Over a decade ago, When IPL started, It was boring while we all used to follow International bilateral passionately. Now IPL is at same level or more then International limited over matches in terms of peoples following. Fact is there has been linear decline in interest in International cricket and gain in following of IPL. Lets not assume that ECB,ICC gave up BCCI moneys without a fight.  Two IPL teams were disbanded in past (ie decrease of 15+ IPL mactch count), Shashank Manohar ICC chairmanship and COA were all part of fight.

 

Its not difficult to guess why mediocrity is being allowed in team India and trajectory and fate of "International Cricket under ICC" for next 10 years

There are only two cricketers in this team who are /will be GLOBAL superstars and that's because they are characters on the field. 

 

If you remove Kohli and Pant from this team, there would be no fun in watching these dorks.

Ishant, Umesh and Shami have become " old " now.  Shami and Umesh used to make the ball fly till 2020.

 

Bumrah and Siraj's bowling are still exciting to watch in patches.  But even they have been affected by the bubble life. 

 

Some time off and doing strength and conditioning training at the NCA may help our pacers barring Ishant.

Given the state of 'flux' the Indian team has been in right after he became coach, I feel he's hanging back on this front, and allowing the "new" captain some space.

Pant is the only "character" in the team but he is more Afridi than Gilchrist as fans had hoped for.
