he may be an object of ridicule in ICF but still is the domestic pacer with most number of wkts in Ranji's .. Karnataka had their greatest success under his captaincy and an example of someone who maximized his potential. Anyway hope he is involved in some capacity in Karnataka cricket post retirement

Can't help but that Warner mauling is hard to forget when he was stepping out & hitting him.  He will be remembered as a domestic legend though.

Not much of India contribution, was a butt of jokes by many here in ICF, people called him Vennai Kumar. Trundler.

Why so? Vinay himself used that name & went further in his farewell note. 

 

A true legend of domestic cricket and an excellent leader. He also displayed so much fight with the bat. 

His domestic exploits would be hard to match within the Karnataka set-up, especially the clean sweep of domestic titles. 

 

As @Mosher & @ShoonyaSifar have rightly pointed out, his rise from a humble, small town background certainly should inspire others. An earlier version of Natarajan, whom we celebrated recently.

 

Some of his strategy & game reading during the commentary stint with Vijay Bharadwaj etc during the Australia series, clearly showed the reasons behind his success as a captain. Hope he goes onwards into coaching.

He took 49 international wickets. For nothing else at least he deserves respect for this. His sole test wicket was Michael Hussey in Perth and what I can remember of the test that was a brutal hundred by Warner when rest 9 batsmen were hurried by pace of sir umesh Yadav who took a fifer. If only India could bat well.. virats coming of age in test cricket was this test where he scored 75..

Good career for him. Ranji stalwart for sure. With all his limitations he had great success troubling the best of the best in Ranji. Congrats to him in this fine career. Also got a chance to play for India, so he will will be content at the end of the day and at peace. Many do not go on to play for India. He did.

Like Siraj, he too is a son of an auto rickshaw driver. Someone from such limited circumstances making it to the national team is an amazing achievement, given how difficult it is to overcome class and economic barriers in India. He didn't do much in international cricket but in domestics he is a legend. Kudos to him for making the most of his ability and achieving what he could.

A domestic legend. Couldn't make it on the international level. But kudos to him. He has done fair bit more for the sport than the entire ICF keyboard phaast bowlers had done. Wouldn't mind him take up a coaching opportunity to groom young quicks if he has the right attitude. When I say right attitude, it means not discouraging quicks to slow down their speeds which only jealous loser types do. Maybe he can take his limitations and would know what it takes to the next level since he didnt make it and that is the making of a good coach. Anyways happy retirement and good luck on his future endeavors

 

Edit: I didn't read his twitter, but from what I'm seeing, he refers himself as an "express". Ooh maybe he should reconsider that choice of words. That part made me think he is full of himself. anyways good luck
